It is time to acknowledge two life members that have passed away this year.
The most recent was Alan Lewis. We have not seen Alan at the club for some years due to his deteriorating health which culminated in his passing away last weekend. Alan knew how to get a great solid bluegrass rhythm out of his Martin and he could sing pretty good too. It’s sad that he has gone.
Roger Giles passed away a few weeks ago, and if you are even vaguely aware of folk music in New Zealand, you have probably seen that news elsewhere, and have been told what a contribution he made.
Here, we want to simply record that he made a huge difference to the Auckland Bluegrass Club as well. He was, along with Hilary Condon, instrumental in our use of the Bunker which continues to this day. Until he became sick he was always there. He was famous for his hilarious interjections, but how proud we felt when we finished a song and the injection was a compliment.
